UTG PHOTOS: Twenty One Pilots (5/25/12)

Under The Gun’s photographer, Tori Thomas went to Twenty One Pilots‘ first headlining show at Stage AE in Pittsburgh, PA on May 25th.

So I’m a new fan of Twenty One Pilots, which leads this to be my first time seeing them live. I follow the record label, Fueled By Ramen, so I thought I should check out the newest members of the label. The day FBR announced TOP was part of the family, I checked them out and instantly fell in love with their tunes. Not to mention they’re from my home state of Ohio and can represent Ohio on the label.

I showed up to Stage AE expecting a high energy, fun-filled show, and that’s exactly what Twenty One Pilots made happen. I had the chance to sit down with Tyler Joseph & Josh Dun of Twenty One Pilots for an interview. The guys told me about recording their new record on FBR, playing live vs recording, giving all they can while performing and more. I could truly tell that their passion was music and creating an experience at a live show. They gave 110% at their first headlining show in Pittsburgh. Their records are spectacular, but when they perform live, you get chills up your spine. I was really blown away; to see everyone around me singing along to every word, really shows they have dedicated fans. During “Car Radio,” Tyler has the crowd part down the middle so he can hop in and jump around and go crazy. Also, during their set they brought four young girls on stage to introduce the crowd to their younger fans. They tell their fans if there is something that is bothering them, they can leave it at the venue, and they will do the same. It shows the interaction they have have with fans and how they both show passion for music. I would have to say this was one of the most enjoyable performances I’ve seen live.
