Childish Gambino Debuts “Worldstar”

I think it’s safe to say Childish Gambino season has arrived.

Keeping his flow of new music steady, Childish Gambino took to the internet this afternoon to debut a new song titled “Worldstar.” The track does not appear to be a cut from his upcoming album, Because The Internet, but it does pack a lyrical punch that will leave you tweeting in disbelief. You can stream and download the song at the end of this post.

Recent material from Childish Gambino – aka Donald Glover – has lead many to believe his new material will be far more indie-tinged than what was delivered on Camp. “Worldstar” could not be more of a departure from that sound, with booming bass backing a worked up Gambino as he vents frustrations in between creative metaphors with a flow far more aggressive than usual (the line about The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air has already become a popular quote on Twitter). Then, just when you think it’s going to be an angry lyrical ride, the track breaks down into something best described as the space where hip hop and jazz collide. There’s a lot of instrumentation, very little lyricism, and a killer sax track that will knock your socks off. Altogether, another thrilling entry from one of rap’s most intriguing young minds.

Gambino continues to tease the December release of Because The Internet, but details are still hard to nail down. We’re assuming an official single will surface sooner than later, so be sure to follow us on Twitter to ensure you never miss another update and comment below to let us know your thoughts on the new material.
