The Get Up Kids Tribute Album Set For December Release

On December 10, Pacific Ridge Records plans to release A Tribute To The Get Up Kids, in honor of the pop-punk trendsetters who influenced an entire generation of music. You can check out the cover art, as well as the full tracking listing, after the jump.

Formed modestly in 1995, the five-piece played a pivotal role in the emo scene for most of the mid-90s, and thanks to their poignant songwriting and simplistic approach, quickly skyrocketed in popularity. Before long, the group had garnered worldwide recognition, and began touring alongside Green Day, Weezer, and other notable genre-mates before eventually becoming headliners themselves. The outfit rejoined forces in 2008 following a 3-year break-up, and in 2011 released There Are Rules, their first full-length since 2004’s Guilt Show.

Today, the group is regarded by many as one of the forefathers of both the emo and pop punk genre. Respected bands such as Blink-182 and The Early November are just two of likely hundreds of groups that cite The Get Up Kids as one of their main influences, and in an interview with Alternative Press, Pete Wentz even went so far as to say “Fall Out Boy would not be a band if it were not for The Get Up Kids.” If that’s not something to hang your hat on, I don’t know what is.

You can bet your bottom dollar that all of us here at UTG will be eagerly awaiting this release in the coming months; comment below and let us know if you will be too.
