Required Listening: Eminem Featuring Kendrick Lamar – “Love Game”

One of the most anticipated tracks off Eminem’s forthcoming album has found its way online ahead of the record’s November 5 release.

If anyone has been the goldenboy of hip hop for the last year it’s Kendrick Lamar. Between his debut album’s success and his verse on Big Sean’s “Control” the Compton-bred rapper has spent very few moments out of the spotlight in 2013. Now, the good kid from mAAd city has joined forces with Eminem for a new cut titled “Love Game,” and the results are probably a lot different than what many had in mind.

Built atop a simplistic beat that’s chock-full of good vibrations, “Love Game” pairs Marshall Mathers and Kendrick Lamar for a track about the odd romantic entanglements celebrities find themselves in. Em’s verses are delightfully tongue-in-cheek, but the real star of the show is without question Lamar, who offers a verse and a bit of assistance on the hook. His flow seems to never end, and by using a handful of different vocal inflections to change perspective Lamar is able to paint lyrical circles around his Detroit-bred peer. You can stream “Love Game” at the end of this post.

Rumor on the street is that Eminem’s new album sprung a leak, but unless something major happens this will likely be the last Marshall Mathers LP2 track we share. Keep an eye out for our review of the album in the days ahead and comment below to let us know whether or not you think Kendrick Lamar just topped Eminem on his own track.

Who ever wrote this obviously knows nothing about word play, thinking Kendrick was more complex is a joke. Using the average end rhyme syllables (sucker for dick, granny walked in/ Manslaughter, called ya, etc.) any rapper could do, compared to Eminem’s back and forth delivery between ending the rhyme through half the word (systematic be-…haviour.) Paint lyrical circles? You’re dreaming
