Stream Wye Oak’s New Single “Glory”

Baltimore indie rock duo Wye Oak are coming back into the spotlight in 2014 with a new album Shriekdue out April 29 via Merge Records. We already got the chance to listen to “The Tower” and now we get to hear “Glory” in all its streaming, uh, glory.

“Glory” speeds things up compared to the relatively emotional “The Tower,” with spaceship synths and a rather funk-influenced bass line sounding like leftover measures from Sufjan Steven’s electronic Age of Adz. Their decision to make Shriek “guitar-free” is already proving to be a smart one; the recluse structure forces them to focus on the instruments at hand, making the most of the drums, bass, and keys for a groove that’s more essential than the hook (or one in the same).
