While Luc Besson has found success in recent years writing and producing the Taken movies, you’d have to go all the way back to 1997’s The Fifth Element to find his last memorable directorial effort. So what does one do when they find themselves in a bit of a rut? Well, they go back to what they do best, of course. And when you’re the director of La Femme Nikita and Léon: The Professional, what you do best is make action-thrillers that center on a kick-ass female heroine.
Enter Scarlett Johansson. After honing her action chops in the Avengers movies, Johansson takes center stage in Lucy, a role that would have been tailor-made for Angelina Jolie a decade ago. The film co-stars Morgan Freeman and the original Oldboy‘s Min-sik Choi. Will Lucy return Besson to his past glory? Click through to watch the trailer and let us know what you think in the comments. The film hits theaters on August 8.
