Millionaires – Just Got Paid, Let’s Get Laid EP

millionairesalbumartArtist: Millionaires
Album: Just Got Paid, Let’s Get Laid EP
Label: Decaydance
Genre: Scenepop

Let me start this by saying that Millionaires are the kind of group you are either going to love or despise. There is little to no room for someone to be a middle ground listener when it comes to this group or this record. However, for those of you who get it, and even for those that buy into it legitimately, you are about to discover music that is as addictive as your favorite sweet. Millionaires debut for Decaydance Records, the Just Got Paid, Let’s Get Laid EP, though filled with mainly old material, may just be the best new thing in pop music this Summer and I will stand my ground on that statement.

Now for all of you unfamiliar with Millionaires before clicking into this review, let me give you a bit of a history lesson on the group. Made up of 3 friends, sisters Melissa Marie and Allison Green, and Dani Artaud, started Millionaires a few years ago and have since garnered over 200,000 friends on Myspace and over 32 million plays. In addition to this, they’ve gone on 3 major tours and sold out many shows [including their entire January 2009 tour].

Okay, now that we’re all on the same page, let’s dive into the group’s style. Now, these girls often get lumped in with the likes of Brokencyde, but that overly autotuned, screamo crunk music has very little in common with Millionaires. This is a very pop meets hip hop beat driven style of near dance music that has no screaming, three vocals parts, almost no actual singing and tons of filthy language. Actually, in this case, it might be an abundance of filthy language, but you’ll get what I mean once we check out the group.

Disregarding a very unnecessary skit/intro, the EP kicks off with the radio ready [and bound], “Just Got Paid, Let’s Get Laid.” This tracks serves as the perfect introduction to both the group, style, and lyrical consensus of the material. Starting with the line, “Welcome to my life,f___ing V.I.P.,” we’re immediately presented with the “personalities” the girls choose to use for their material – ridiculously snobby, alcoholic, sex obsessed 20 somethings out to party until sunrise or arrests – whichever comes first. The hook of the song, which is basically the title being repeated with extra effects use, will become so ingrained in your subconscious that you’ll find yourself humming or mumbling it days later [and every payday, of course].

“Just Got Paid” serves as the only new track on the record for longtime fans and the remaining 4 tracks [the closing number being a radio edit of “Just Got Paid”] come form the girls’ self released [and highly successful] Bling Bling Bling EP, but have each been redone for better sound and additional effects work. Starting things off is the girls’ first big song, “Alcohol” which will surely become a required for any and all college parties or clubs. The sheer ego tripped confidence the girls’ personas display will boggle anyone’s mind as the lyrics do little more than encourage binge drinking and their willingness to accept free drinks [but not in exchange for sex]. Some are going to write it off as straight fluff, but if you just loosen up your moral barometer, collar, or snobbish music taste, you’ll find it’s an addictive track with lyrics that obviously impact the listener and really, what else can you ask for?

Between the three additionally reworked tracks, we have the dance club gem, “I Like Money,” which disses on “plastic” girls at the bar while discussion seduction tactics and asking us to watch them dance. In addition to this, my personal favorite older track, “I Move It,” offers a complete club ready beat with instructions on how to “get with” the girls. What is it one must do to get them you ask? Well, as they say, “I’m so turned off by all these boys who never f___ing dance, when i see a boy just standing there, he won’t get in my pants.” So there you have it guys, the girls want you to dance and with music like this, I dare you to see how long you can go before you crave nothing more than to dance til you sweat. However, if you stop at the track between these, “Talk Shit,” you may a bit turned off from the group, initially anyways. This overly simplistic track is the girls’ battle anthem of sorts where they exclaim, “shut your mouth or I’ll cut your tongue.” I can see how the younger [tween-teen] crowd may jump on the foul language and girl power like message, but the overall sound and feel is very amateur and detracts from the sound and flow of the record.

Just Got Paid, Let’s Get Laid will no doubt be the underground party sensation of the Summer. The girls of Millionaires are nothing short of scene sirens with highly underestimated business senses that have them laughing and partying all the way to the bank. This isn’t music to change lives or the world. This is music to just let go and dance to and if anyone here at UTG has anything to say, that’s exactly what we will be doing for a long time to come.

Much like life, don’t take it too seriously. Just let go, dance, and tell all your friends who the new queens of club pop are.

Score: 8.5/10

I think their music is hilarious.
    Why not?
They dont give a shit and they are having a blast.
    Right on.

  2. may says:

how is this considered music? i feel sorry for their parents and even more sorry for decaydance for adding these ugly fake girls to their record label. why decaydance? your label is full of amazingly talented bands except these girls. i’m sorry to say i’ve lost my respect for you decaydance. this is a pitiful attempt at music expecially since there are many other bands who deserve a spot on your record label unlike these undeserving whores.

  3. sam says:

wow, may. you obviously dont know much about these girls. allison and melissas mother is very proud of their work. theyre not fake, theres no other group of girls like them. their music isnt meant to take literally, its just for fun. its as if you didnt even read the article, ha..

  4. Christian says:

    “How is this considered music?”

Are you fucking kidding me? It has a beat and there’s words over it. That’s music. The Millis make GREAT songs to dance to. If you’re in the mood to sit in your mood and mope or sit on the bus with your headphones on analyzing every lyric, then, no, this isn’t the music for you. But if you like to hit the dance floor and get wild, then it doesn’t get better.

  5. Damuthafuckinzebra says:

    Millionaires are fuckin amazing:]
If you dont like them get off there myspace page and go listen to something on your itunes..

Major props to James on this spot-on review. I’ll admit as sort of a music snob myself, I definitely wasn’t a fan of the group when i was first exposed to them but much like the author of this review you have to take this music with a grain of salt. Once you understand the fact that these girls DO NOT take themselves seriously as musicians at all, this music is downright fuckin enjoyable. Yeah, they don’t really fit in with what Decaydance usually has to offer but hey, they’re obviously making the label a lot of money and notoriety so kudos to them. If you can give me the name of a label that is ashamed of an act that sells out tours then by all means, go ahead.

Just like their lyrics suggest “no talent just luck, but they still wanna fuck me” these girls are business savvy and have created a brand and an image that is sure to make them a lot of money.

  7. lxm says:

I am one that is somewhat on the fence. I understand that this could not really be considered music… and that their voices sound whiny. But on the other hand i love them, and their music. I like how people talk sh-t and try to put them down. Now THATS hilarious.Like their song Talk Sh-t says, “Talk sh-t to us you f–ing haters
You’re the ones who f–ing made us”
“You hate us and our stupid lyrics
But deep down you love to hear it”

  8. sasha. says:

    they’re the best!

  9. Carmen says:

OMG!!! This is so true about them. It’s so nice to see something positive written about them. They didn’t ask for this but they are having fun and creating more and more catchier and fun music. This is a really smart move for Decaydance and I know this music will be the party soundtrack of my life. <3

  10. nina says:

It wouldn’t be so bad if Melissa wasn’t such a rude ass whore. I can’t stomach her, she’s obnoxious and ugly as shit. Not to mention she’s a total whack job.

  11. Steff says:

I don’t see why these girls were picked up for a record deal over so many other deserving bands.

I mean they’re such brilliant role models for all the little girls who will listen to their music, what with the singing about getting wasted and being date raped, I’m sure all of their young fans will understand that it’s a joke and not aspire to be like them. Only how they will and we’ll end up with yet another generation of fake tanned sluts in American Apparel bikinis who think that all they need to do to have a good time is drink until they pass out and sleep around with as many guys as they can.

    Well done Decaydance

  12. I absolutely LOVE this review! The best I’ve ever read for the Millionaires. Very accurate.

  13. Allisun says:

Millionaires are pretty much the besttt:)
    Don’t say shit, DUMB BITCHES!

  14. Jackie says:

The first time I heard the Millionaires, I instantly fell in love with their music. I thought it was hilarious and had great beats. The girls themselves are beautiful and really nice.

I’ve gone to 2 of their shows and their amazing live. I’m really happy that they finally got signed on to a label, I’m sure they’ve got a great year coming to them.

  15. daniella says:

why u hateing my son? u guys are stupid, the millionaires are amazing!.. u talking like theyre the only ones that make music about alcohol and sex and shit like that, theres lots of bands, single singers that make music about the same topic. look at lil wayne? or idk other rap singers. its almost the same shit u know? if u really hate them, why wasting ur beautiful time looking at this, or even reading this? if u dont like them, then ignore this and every single things about the millionaires… and plz get a life. instead of posting a fucking paragraph about what u hate about them. thanks. ahh ohh yah i love the millionaires

  16. Brandon Jones says:

This is absolutely horrendous music and the fact that any music reviewer would score it a “8.5/10” is beyond me. Everyone is entitled to their own personal preference but my preference is to see garbage like this obliterated. No joke. I know thousands of struggling bands just itching to get their music heard and in front of casual listeners. Then some horribly autotuned synth driven garbage like this gets a record deal and front page promotion. It’s ridiculous and goes to show that money is more important than quality product, (which this certainly isn’t). I can honestly only listen to like one song of theirs before my ears start bleeding.

  17. Aliza says:

These girls rock their music is awesome and their sexy as hell so they have the whole package

  18. richie says:

I like them, they’re not doing anything to music that hasn’t already been done, so stop saying they’re ruining it, they’re no different than Britney Spears, it’s fun, catchy, like Japanese pop. We have to look at it like it’s a modern art, not everybody will get it and not everybody likes it. If people complain about them being in the place of some people who are actually talented, if somebody is very talented and has good music, I’m sure they’ll get picked before Millionaires if they’re “SOOOO TALENTED.” Music has been dead for quite some time, so we might as well dance on music’s grave while listening to I Move It. <3

  19. melissa_marie says:

Im so cute and so is my music! Listen to my music….oh wait. Our music

  20. Jessica says:

Good review. Makes me want to give Millionaires a chance, despite having already done so and come to the conclusion they put out bad messages to susceptible young girls (all susceptible listeners really), lack subtlety within their lyrics, and are far more interested in creating club mixes. Their profanity will unfortunately prevent a lot of their tracks from being considered for radio play and a lot of parents will not be happy having their children going to the girls’ shows.

  21. see ya says:

hard to respect any site that would say a single positive thing about this band. i’m going to never come back here, but still hope that this is just a ploy to get traffic to the site. it’s a good one, if that’s the truth. what a joke, and not even worth the very minute internet space that the words take up.

  22. Hall says:

they make new songs in this ep? D:
i love them please answer bitches ;D

  23. Malalalalalory says:

It’s not that I hate them…their music is pretty good. I think I’m a rare, middle ground listener, or at least I was until I found out they were signed to Decaydance. It just doesn’t fit. They don’t belong there. It makes me sad. They’re ruining what that label stood for. =[

  24. www.myspace.com/brokenvictim24 says:

    The MILLIONAIRES are amazing!

im Def going to buy the Ep Tommrow!

    Fuckkk you hatersss.
    Millionaires are here to stay!;)

  25. emilyyy says:

obviously if you’re looking for music with meaningful and deep lyrics, this isnt it. But if you just want some music to dance to its perfect. their songs are fun to listen to sooo… thumbs up

  26. Mazzy says:

Millionaires are not amazing. These girls and they’re music are prime examples of what’s ruining our society. Fuck this move for money.

  27. J says:

the fact that someones paying them to do what they do disgusts me.

  28. GC says:

I’m glad this review was published. The Millionaires never tried to be a serious band, they got lucky and got signed. Don’t get me wrong, I love meaningful music, but the millionaires are just songs to have fun to. And whoever said Melissa Marie is a bitch, stfu. I met her after a show in Austin and she walked right over to me and some friends, signed our shirts, and had an actual conversation with us. Probably the friendliest band I’ve seen live. Can’t wait to see and support them on Warped!

  29. Sylkar says:

I just have one thing in my head since i heard about this…. WHY? Pete, Gabe… WHY??????

No seriously though, their songs sound worse than ANYTHING I’ve ever heard in my life… no exaggeration but a clear statement… Did you guys listen to that song where one of them just keeps on going “look over HIIIIEIEEEIEIERE!!” Gosh damn that’s annoying…

  30. Ronald RIOT! says:

The new EP and Video is amazing!
I can’t wait to meet the girls @ warped tour!!!

  31. AngelaAnemia says:

These girls rule the fucking party scene.
Their style is wisked sweet. These girls
have it all figured out and as they always say they are livin’ life. I give them props and i love them tons. They are my favourite band.If you’re a hater keep it to yourself.

  32. Dave says:

Just, love how shitty bands now a day get a chance.. when they really shouldn’t I don’t know who green lite this for them to be signed WHAT A POOR SIGNING/DECISION!!!!

  33. julian says:

    millionaires are fucking amazing

  34. April says:

Pretty nice post. I just came by your blog and wanted to say
that I have really liked browsing your blog posts. Anyway
I’ll be subscribing to your feed and I hope you write again soon!

  35. Valerie says:

    these girls are amazinggggggggggg!
if you don’t like them its simple don’t listen to them than!!

  36. Kyle Blom says:

Okay so sometimes you dont know someone by the looks of them but when you here amazing music like this new EP “Just Got Paid, Lets Get Laid” then you know the that the people behind the music are also amazing!

This new ep will make you fall off the edge of your seat. Trust me, BUY IT!!!!!!
    Its worth every dime.

and by end of the song, I somehow lost my underware!!!!!

always bringing love to you MILLIONAIRES!
    Love kyle.

  37. DEVILWEED says:

    Like a porno SHAMPOO? Priceless…

  38. dane says:

In essence, they are being paid to glorify things like getting drunk everyday and being easy… that’s wonderful music right there.

And I don’t know about you, but just because something has a beat and words over it… that doesn’t make it music to me. Because they don’t take themselves seriously, it’s hard for me to believe that they care about anything except the stupid stuff they sing about–boozing, being easy, and money. I just can’t respect a band that doesn’t care about anything but that.

And they seem to have thick skins when it comes to haters, but most hardcore Decaydance fans are not their target audience, so I think eventually, the amount of haters they will encounter will get to them.

  39. wandaakitty says:

    AWESOME!
keep up the good work millionaires!

  40. tyler h says:

wow, there’s more cursing in these comments than a quentin tarantino flick.

just because someone doesn’t take themselves seriously doesn’t mean I have to enjoy it.

As Dr. Zoidberg would say, your music is bad and you should feel bad.

  41. Joolianstar says:

Seriously The Millionaires bring about as much cursing as today;s average rap music. The difference is , Their girls. People needa stop trippin’ it’s just a song. They have a good music that today’s teen enjoys . I know all my friends listen to their music becuase it just represents something fun!
I give the new EP 5 stars. If you guys seriously wanted something else from them I’m sure there are tons of other bands you could listen to.

  43. Updated sound of early beastie boys, but drunk scene chicks. thats what I thought upon first listening.

  44. James says:

Just to be clear – no money was exchanged or anything in writing this review. It’s truly how I feel about the girls’ and their music.

  45. Air says:

To everyone who is dissing them or their music, go listen to ‘Talk Shit’.
    NOW

    then shut up =D

  46. laura ha! says:

it’s obviously a mindless record for drinking and fucking. not all music has to have depth. because god knows most people dont have depth.

not my stuff, but hey, they’re getting paid every time some fifteen year old spends mom and dad’s money on itunes for their single. kudos.

  47. I LOVE Millionaires.. i have been following this band ever since they first started.. they are (in my opinion, and should be yours) one of the BEST bands out there! Love you guys SOOOOOO much <3
