Josh Brolin In Talks To Star In ‘Jurassic World’

Today proved to be a good news day for highly anticipated, long-in-the-works movies, as this bit of Jurassic World casting news joined the Assassin’s Creed and Hot Wheels movies in the news cycle. Well, two for three is still a pretty good batting percentage. Sorry, Simon Crane.

As reported by Variety, Josh Brolin is in talks to star in the franchise reboot. Brolin, a talented actor with a filmography full of both big hits and truly god-awful misses, is certainly taking on quite the big name workload. He can be seen in this fall’s intriguing – if not exactly “highly anticipated” – Oldboy remake, and he also has the second Sin City installment and the next Paul Thomas Anderson film in post-production. When speaking strictly in terms of dollar signs, though, Jurassic World towers over these others like… well, like a dinosaur. I’m sorry.

He’ll be joining Bryce Dallas Howard (I’ll choose to cite 50/50 here), Ty Simpkins (the kid from the Insidious movies and Tony Stark’s sidekick in Iron Man 3), and Nick Robinson (The Kings of Summerin the film, which will be directed by the man who brought us the delightful indie Safety Not Guaranteed, Colin Trevorrow. The movie is slated for filming in early 2014, with the release date scheduled for June 12, 2015, giving them plenty of time to add the delightful dinos.

Now, Brolin isn’t an actor who can single-handedly carry a film, though he certainly fits snugly into the Sam Neil/Alan Grant mold. The man needs a good script; there’s no shame in that, most actors do. In a film where the dinosaurs are the real stars, that’s pretty unavoidable. Will this iteration have the equivalent of Sam Neil whistling the hungry dinosaurs away?

As for that script, Bloody-Disgusting has a nice (rumored) synopsis that it in turn received from JoBlo a few months ago. The summary:

So, to sum it all up, Jurassic Park 4 will take place back on Isla Nublar with a fully operational dinosaur theme park (I’m sure no expense was spared) that’s both prosperous and safe, until a new dinosaur figures out a way to wreak havoc, causing the use of the now tamed Velociraptors (and T-Rex? Unclear) as a means to fighting the threat.”

I’ll stick to my current “wait and see” mindset on this fresh take for another year or so. In the meantime, stay tuned for more details as they are brought to light.
