I know “Applause” did not impress many longtime followers of Mother Monster, and the whole wandering the woods naked thing was a bit odd, but stop whatever you’re doing right now and give Lady Gaga one more chance to sell you on her forthcoming album ARTPOP.
“Do What U Want” is the latest track to surface off Gaga’s long-awaited third studio album, and it is without a doubt the best we’ve heard off the record so far. The track boasts a smooth, 80s-influenced beat that brings to mind the best moments of the Drive soundtrack, only this time the underlying themes are far more sexual. Gaga collaborates with R. Kelly on the verses, which are all catchy in their own right, but as this is pop music the true highlight is the hot-and-steamy hook that will likely be dominating worldwide radio in the weeks to come. This is the insta-hit Gaga fans have been waiting for, and quite frankly the one Gaga herself has needed. “Applause” may still be in rotation, but there is no denying the world’s obsession with Miley‘s Bangerz and Katy‘s decision to “Roar” has stolen a bit of her usually overhyped thunder. Now that both Perry and Cyrus have albums in stores, Gaga has the promotional spotlight all to herself and “Do What U Want” may just be the tip of the iceberg in terms of great new music to come.
